Microdermabrasion frequently asked questions

Our microdermabrasion machine uses a jet of ultra-fine aluminium oxide crystals to exfoliate the skin. The crystal works as an intense yet gentle abrasive to remove dead skin cells. Vacuum action hygienically removes these dead cells while stimulating blood flow to the area. It is not a treatment just for the face either, we can do other areas of the body too such as back, chest and decolletage.

During a microdermabrasion treatment, a stream of fine crystals is used to gently abrade the skin’s surface, while a vacuum suction device removes the exfoliated skin cells. This process stimulates collagen production and enhances cell turnover, resulting in healthier, more radiant skin.

Microdermabrasion is generally safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin, it is a gentle and non-invasive procedure. However, certain skin conditions can be contraincicated, our therapist will discuss this at consultation to ensure you are suitable for treatment.

The benefits of microdermabrasion include improved skin texture and tone, reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, diminished acne scars and hyperpigmentation, and enhanced absorption of skincare products. It can also stimulate collagen production, resulting in firmer, more youthful-looking skin over time.

Clients do not generally comment that this treatment is uncomfortable or painful.

A typical microdermabrasion treatment session takes approximately 30 minutes.

The number of microdermabrasion sessions needed to see results varies depending on the individual’s skin concerns and treatment goals. Many people notice improvement in their skin’s texture and appearance after just one session, but a series of treatments spaced a fews weeks apart is often recommended for optimal results.

After the treatment, the skin may feel tight with mild redness. Therefore it is important that clients use a good moisturiser, during the day this must be at least SPF 30. These effects normally subside within 24 hours of treatment.

Yes, microdermabrasion can be combined with other skincare treatments such as resurfacing/ chemical peels, to enhance results. We can recommend a customized treatment plan based on your specific skin concerns.

It’s important to protect your skin from sun exposure, always using at least an SPF30 during any daylight hours, use gentle skincare products to avoid irritation. You may find you need a little extra moisturiser than normal and avoid using retinol and glycolic for a few days after treatment.
